Bumi Sehat is a natural birthing center in Ubud, Bali ( Indonesia) that believes access to high quality maternal healthcare is a human right.
This clinic provides prenatal and postpartum care for all Indonesian women for free. Although Bali is a large tourist destination, huge healthcare disparities exist for the local population and many women do not receive the maternal healthcare they need. The maternal and infant mortality rate is one of the highest among Asian nations at 228 per 100,000 live births and infant mortality at 27 per 1,000 births.
Giving birth is an incredibly strong and powerful thing that women do, however, it also can be dangerous. Therefore women need the medical support to go through every step of having a safe birth and pregnancy. High maternal and infant mortality rates are the direct result of the lack of healthcare within Indonesia and many others places across the world, therefore with greater access these numbers can be dramatically reduced.
