Hope, Love and Dreams-
Of an undocumented women, I have followed and worked with for 5 years. Recently her dreams finally become true after 17 years she married her husband in the white dress she had dreamed off, on the 7th month on the 7th day in 2017. Regardless of her status, and the lack of papers and legal status, she celebrated her wedding with her family and indigenous community.
Maria arrived 17 years ago after eloping with a man she had only known for 3 days, crossing the border into California. She is Purépecha an indigenous people centered in the northwestern region of the Mexican state of Michoacán. She has worked packing lemon, raspberries and now works in potpourri factory making minimum wage. She is part of a backbone of undocumented workforce that currently feel very threatened.
