WE NEED TO TALK

As a Danish photographer artist who is also a woman and a mother, I feel compelled to show the world the human spirit of the survivors of sexual violence against women through an artistic photographic project in collaboration with the victims.

Over the next 2 years, I will be exploring the reality of the lives of some of these women. I will be photographing and documenting their stories working along side them in a positive and empowering way by running workshops, doing photography projects thought collaborations with NGO’s and non-profit organizations fighting this issue.

Earlier this spring, in my first research trip for this project, I traveled to Cambodia and Thailand where I spent some weeks photographing and speaking to women. I felt deeply honored that they trusted me with their stories. What I learnt is that these women are desperate to have a voice and be heard.

I believe that images can have a profound effect in breaking down barriers and allowing us to connect with each others’ essential humanity—any of these girls and women could be our mother, our sister, our daughter.
